Dang it !!

Multimedia functionality seems to be the main objective with All-In-One computers from other manufacturers ..... but not Apple !!

Integrated TV Tuners are becoming almost a standard ..... as are Media Card Readers !! :)

Why isn't Apple adding these two features ..... atleast as a BTO option ??

I seriously wish nobody had invented :apple:TV !! :(

Apple is not going to waste their time with adding an analog tuner in an iMac, and you can already capture HD streams over firewire if you have a HD cable box.

Actually Apple was one of the first to put TV tuners into their computers. I have a TAM and a 5500 with tv tuners in them. SJ doesn't seem to like them, they all disappeared after he arrived.

Elgato makes great products and we should just go with them. SJ is pushing iTunes video downloads, and doesn't understand that I would rather watch commercials.

TV is kinda on its way out anyway. I watch most of my shows on HULU and Veoh anyway.

Linkey??? I want it!!

If they made the integrated media reader a BTO option and you didn't get it wouldn't there be a lot of empty holes on your iMac case? I don't particularly want one myself. I see those all in one readers and for me I just have one type... why do I need 6 other holes? I personally just plug my digital camera into my computer.

TV Tuner might be okay but with the U.S. going from their analog to digital transition soon it might not be worth putting in just yet. Then you have to fix in the Direct TV stuff and whatever else. A video in might be nice, but not sure a tuner would be that great in the Apple TV just yet.

TV is going Digital ..... and despite all the hype, will be here for years to come !! :p

If big players like Dell and Sony can see the sense in offering built-in TV and Card Readers ..... why can't Apple ??

I like your sig.
by the time iMac like that reaches out to the surface you'll be either very old or die without ever having one:D:p
Loose your hopes and find alternatives.

Yeah, it's pretty unlikely that all (or even some) of what you want are coming to the iMac any time soon. How many mice do you know of that aren't made of plastic? Honestly.

If and when Apple can make the itunes TV store a viable alternative to TV, i.e, include shows from NBC @#*&$*@#$, then I wouldn't need this lousy analog picture i get through my EyeTv!

To answer your question, I hope not.

The iMac would have to be different for each country (PAL, NTSC, Digital etc. etc.) and we would have to pay more and have the design ruined with the card reader and tv tuner.

Its like saying why do I have to buy a printer, it should come with one.

And if you compare the iMac to the Dell XPS one for example, the iMac is cheaper, faster, and sexier.

Not at all ..... multi-version TV cards are easily available already ..... and size wise they are tiny so could be squeezed in without significantly increasing the iMac dimensions ..... and the fact that I have a USB SD Card Reader sticking out irritates me as it ruins the design ! :p

Agreed ..... but the Dell does have BluRay, TV Tuner, Media Reader and matching Mouse/Keyboard/Remote !
