I was so saddened to learn that the 21.5 imac only has one firewire port... it seems like that would make it unusable for music production. The current models are more than powerful enough, but not being able to run an interface (apogee duet) and external drives at the same time is really bad... I considered using a hub, a powered hub, but I'm worried that it will cause real problems with latency... I'm hoping hard that the newer models will contain more ports... even ONE more 800 would do it for my purposes... any thoughts? anyone know if a powered hub would cause a slower response, IE (no pun intended) more latency?

Another port wouldn't really help since they are using the same bus and use the same resources.

A hub is you best bet since apogee did not include a relay, meaning it would be at the end of your daisy chain. Email their tech support for their recommendations.

They are on top of things since they are Mac focused.

@spacepower7 so if they are on the same bus, the effect would be the same as daisychaining? In that case, would a hub cause slower response, meaning a good chance of latency?
on my macbook pro there's a 400 and an 800... are those on the same bus?
how fast (in comparison to the FW 800) are the usb 2.0?
thanks for all your help !
