iPad Will iPad air smart cover fit iPad air 2?

Will an iPad Air Apple smart cover fit an iPad Air 2, and wake/sleep the iPad as it does on Air 1?

One it was thinner, only by a mm though isn't it. But as it's same size screen thought it still would fit.

The smart cover currently on the Apple website says fits iPad Air 2 and iPad (2017) and they are different thickness

True they are different thicknesses. But Apple rearranged the internal magnet placements between the Air 1 and Air 2. This is what broke the Smart Cover compatibility between the two. Looks like they kept the Air 2 arrangement for the 2017 iPad so the Air 2 Smart Cover should work but not the covers from the Air 1.

The Air 2 and iPad Pro 9.7" Are the same exact thickness. 6.1mm or .24 inch. The iPad Air/New iPad is 7.4mm or .29 inches.
