Hello, I'm new here. I actually ran across this site a few weeks ago and finally decided to register.

I was reading on the ipad impressions thread and from what I was reading it didn't sound like the ipad would work with a g4 processor. Is this true? Currently, I have a iBook g4 running leopard and Had been planning on getting the 3g ipad, but if it's not compatible with my iBook what's the use! As much as I'd like to update to a newer MacBook, I just can't justify it. I do nothing beyond surf the web most of the times anyways. Can someone shed some light on this? Is it the g4 processor the ipad has issues with or is it just tiger?

I dont have an ipad yet, but i just updated my G4 to the latest version of itunes that is compatible with ipad. Hope this helps some

I am guessing if you can install iTunes 9.1 then it'll work.

You can always get it activated at store to make sure.

iBook will not charge iPad, but iPad includes wall adapter.

I updated iTunes yesterday when it popped up in software update. My best guess would be that if iTunes 9.1 works on the g4 then it should rub the ipad with no issues. I'd still like a concrete answer though. If it won't, I guess I can always put getting an ipad off and go ahead and get a MacBook!

Here are the requirements for the iPad (from Apple):

PC with USB 2.0 port

Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later

iTunes 9.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)

iTunes Store account

Internet access

Where'd you find that at? Unfortunately high speed Internet is not offered where I live so I'm stuck using an iPhone on edge network. I'm actually using an old iBook g4, not a pc. Requirements for mac should be somewhere around where you found that though. Thanks

Sorry, I copied the wrong one. Here is Mac:

Mac computer with USB 2.0 port

Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later

iTunes 9.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)

iTunes Store account

Internet access

I've got an iBook G4 and everything has synced okay for me. I think as long as you have iTunes 9.1 you're fine

It looks like on a Mac, iPad requires a system running Leopard or later to activate

Thanks! That's what I was looking for! Someone that's used it with an iBook! I'm really glad I went ahead and made the switch from tiger to leopard!

Dude save your money and buy a new computer prior to an ipad,

Not necessarily, if his iBook is like mine it's going on 5 years and still works pretty well. Now I have the iPad to use as my main internet surfing computer and the iBook will just be a host for all my media files which will make it last that much longer.

So, I also have a iBook G4 and considering the iPad as my roam around the house machine. Is there a consensus that the iPad is faster for web browsing and playing YouTube videos? I also have a DuoCore iMac.

Cheers,
Mike
