I just upgraded my Iphone 4 with BB 1.59 and 4.01 to 5.01 using custom ispw with redsnow.
Can i jb my phone now the regular way without the BB being upgraded since i now already have 5.01, or will all regular jb, like Redsnow 0.9.9b9d overwrite and upgrade the BB if i do?

Redsn0w will not overwrite your BB, it will only jailbreak the phone, to overwrite the baseband you have to do a firmware upgrade.

And here we go again...
Its so long between each time i do this, that i forget everything

Now, Iph4 still on bb 01.59 with 5.01, any links to working custom ispw and upgrade to 5.1
Needs both unlock and jb.
Read that 5.1.1 could be bad for my phone, and that i should stay on 5.1?
Anyone?

There is nothing wrong with 5.1.1
5.1 only has a tethered jailbreak
5.1.1 is untethered jailbreak

Youre sure its not the other way around? 5.1 untethered?
Would be more logical, in terms of release order...

If not, which of the dozen different untethered jbs is the best this time?

Wonderful, so then it only remains answer to one question then, link to the best option...
I bet labman know the true answer to that one as well ;)

Labman, i appreciate your skills as a comedian, and i think its great that you contribute with clogging up threads with BS like this, instead of giving a more usefull answer, keep it up and make this forum impossible to search for relevant answers...

Great, so what do we need Macrumors for then, if all the answers is on Google?

If you are unlocked and jb on 5.0.1 there is no need to update to 5.1.1 and there is no major advantage or reason to go to 5.1.1 that I can think of.

You should just stay on 5.0.1 until there is an untethered jb and unlock available for iOS 6.X.

Good advice.

Some other advice is not to try to p*ss people off that try to help you.

And no there aren't a dozen or so JB tools, just a few on 5.01 and googling would have found them for you in the blink of an eye, use the jailbreak wizzards dhlizard was refering to.

Also actual reading the forum would get you that information.
It's better to help yourself first than to ask questions without puting any effort in.

FYI if you want people help you are better of to be nice then get a attitude nobody has to help you nobody is paid to do so. Google or searching the forum can find the answers faster then most of us can help with most questions. Also as TriJetHero said your better off learning to find answers yourself. I for one would be glad to help you in the future just check your attitude at the door, and try to find it yourself 1st.

Dude, calm down. Labman was just kidding with you - plus, you really are putting zero effort into this. If you're so concerned with how "clogged up" the forum is, don't make redundant posts when you could just search here, or browse the fisrt 2 - 3 pages of the forum. Since you don't appear interested in learning how to fish yourself, though, here's some free salmon:

-5.1 is a tethered JB (I know, I still have it)

-Jailbreaking will not update your BB (as long as you don't restore with a firmware that's not "NO_BB" / custom prior to jailbreaking). I can verify this as I've run a custom IPSW w/ NO_BB and then jailbroken that firmware, all w. the 1.59.00 BB still on the phone.

-The firmware you'll need can be found on iClarified.com if you really want to run 5.1.1

-Personally, the JB tool I used is RedSn0w - try it.

-Listen to Braxton, there is no real need to move from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 (or 5.1 for that matter)

I'm asuming your phone is an AT&T phone... Are you elligible for an unlock now, or are you still under contract? A factory unlock would be better than a NO_BB IPSW as you won't have the "one signal bar" cosmetic side effect.

Enjoy your fish, sir :)
