Will Jailbreaking my 1.1.1 iPhone now will cause trouble?

Hello.
I will be receiving my iPhone in 2 days and the guy who sold me told me it had the 1.1.1 firmware. As of now, people can downgrade the 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 to use it as an iPod Touch, but if I do that, will it cause any problems when they find a solution for unlocking 1.1.1?

It wont do anything since you cant jailbreak or mod the 1.1.1 software in anyway. However, 1.1.1 has been cracked a couple days ago and the DEV team is working hard to open the exploit they found further.

In short, if it has 1.1.1 it will only work with ATT as an iPhone.

How about buying a touch instead? I guess I don't see where you are going with this.

It might help if you explain better, but it sounds like you dont want cell service and this is a used iPhone that did have legit ATT service?

Sure you can downgrade but once you do anything to this phone to activate it you will never be able to sell it or update it again.

Just getting an iPod touch would be a better move since your getting what you want without "damaging" the firmware which could lead to an iBrick.

I want to able to use the iPod, wifi, etc functions of the iPhone for now and when they unlock 1.1.1 to use the phone functions as well. Can I downgrade and activate it now or when the unlock 1.1.1 software comes it wont work on my iPhone?

do you want to be someone with a bricked iphone moaning about how apple never warned you about hacking your iphone? are you an experienced hacker?

I agree with wizard.... and to add that if you downgrade to 1.0.2 and unlock it, thats all. Its the upgrade process itself that seems to brick the phones.

So if you have 1.0.2 you are stuck with it, never able to upgade unless they find a way to pre-install something that will prevent a restore and all that jaz. To me, it sounds like its more trouble than its worth.

But it will be work unlocking phones already on 1.1.1. These phones are already upgraded. But yet again, they could be bricked with another Apple update.

Like I said, once you modify something you are stuck. Installing third party apps is fine, unlocking it is not. I had plenty of apps under 1.0.2 and am now running 1.1.1 without them. But I had no need to unlock the phone as you will have to do to get past the activation screen.

This might sound a little harsh but unless you know the answer to this already I'd suggest not downgrading. I say this in all fairness because a bricked iphone is a bricked iphone and relying on what any of the people here say to you is not a good way to begin you hacking and modding career.

Visit some of the original 'primary' source sites including the iphone hack tool developer's sites mentioned here and found on Google first and read everything there, once you're familiar with the environment, terms used, software available and what and how it does it's stuff THEN consider modding your phone.

I'm not saying you need to know each line of code, just what each piece of the puzzle does and roughly how it does it.

If you still have a pure 1.1.1 iphone keep it that way until proper 1.1.1 solutions are announced. Patience will be your friend as you trawl these forums and read tales of inexperienced and badly informed owners lamenting the passing away of their beloved iphones all because they couldn't wait to install Summerboard or try Navizon...
