I've seen some youtube videos showing how easy the new jailbreak procedure for the 3GS is on Windows, so I've been tempted to finally try it out so I can get all of those extra customization options and such (c'mon Apple, I can't even change my background, icons, or alert tones?? Seems like a no-brainer).

Anyway, in several of those videos, I noticed that the phones was running pretty poorly, looking sluggish and locking up for a moment here and there.

Does anyone have any experience jailbreaking the 3GS yet? Seems like it might not be worth the extra bells and whistles if the overall user experience goes in the crapper...

No. It turns into a hamster. Youtube lied.

Seriously though, from what I understand, for now the 3GS jailbreak is sluggish. It may improve after 3.1 releases, but for now it seems to be pretty slow. Maybe wait until the dev team cracks 3.1?

Ah, yes. Sadly my iPhone hasn't been the same since:

actually..my 3G S is super fast jailbroken, it is a HUGE difference from a jailbroken 3G due to the speed bump of the 3G S

Yeah!! I went from a JB2g to a ra1ned 3gS and it's insanely faster. Recently redsn0wed my father's 3g and it was quite slow in comparison

I have to agree with the other posts here-the JB 3GS is MUCH FASTER than my JB 3G.

To be fair, I JB it the second I got it home so I can't compare it to a "vanilla" 3GS, but it is FAR FASTER than the 3G.

Cydia literally loads and is ready to go in 5 seconds or less.

the 3gs is much faster jailbroken than the 3g was...the only is that my settings app opens 3 milliseconds slower than before it was jailbroken and the boot time has increased by 2 seconds..not that i really care about those

Agreed, my jailbroken 3GS is much faster than my jailbroken 3G was. There's really no comparison - it's MUCH faster. :D

But my 'vanilla' 3GS is faster than my jailbroken one. I had expected this, but was hoping that I'd be wrong. :(

This echos my experience exactly. You wouldn't notice a difference unless you compared a virgin 3GS right next to a jailbroken one.

I see the OP is a cat lover.

Haha well I do have a cat, but always been more of a dog person. Didn't mean to give them a bad name here :)

Anyway, I just don't want to risk turning my lightning quick 3GS into a clunker. Convince me that the reward outweighs the risk! :)

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS (White, 32GB): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7C97d Safari/528.16)

SBSettings, WinterBoard, Scrobbl?

Personally, that list isn't quite enough to tip the scales for me. Add VOIPOver3G, though, and that's a different story. ;)

I'd love to see the video too :D (comparing jailbroken 3G to a vanilla 3G

Thanks :p
