Hey guys, just signed up for this thing so forgive me if I look like a noob lol..
I'm quite new to the jailbreaking community too so I'm sorry if I'm asking noobish questions!

Basically, I want to upgrade to the newest iOS version (which is 8.4 if I'm right) and I am jailbroken. Will I be able to just upgrade straight away so I can keep all my data and jailbreak or do I have to restore through Pangu (which I used to jailbreak) using an IPSW and then upgrade?

Cheers in advance :p

(Edit) I have a white iPhone 5c.

Updating and restoring to current iOS version will remove the jailbreak. But you can't OTA update from iDevice, only through iTunes. But if you update in iTunes, when you jailbreak, it should all your settings. But this can cause issues. Best to restore as new to avoid future problems.

Thanks man. What sort of problems would they be (eg. bricking my phone) It's just that I'm reluctant to copy everything off :p

The advice given above is the best. Upgrade and restore as new through iTunes, jailbreak, reinstall tweaks.

I'd just add that to avoid any possible issues, put your iPhone in DFU mode and then upgrade/restore as new.

All of that said, I have consistently upgraded and restored from a backup since iOS 5. I've yet to encounter any issues and I've even benefited stock for a time. It's nice when you are stock and you jailbreak again to be able to install old tweaks and find your settings exactly as you left them from the previous jailbreak.

However, the advice given is to avoid glitches, apps that break, shortened battery life, security holes, problems with tweaks that won't work, bootloops, etc. That's why this advice is given.

As I said, I've had no problems, but just because I've been ok doesn't mean this is not good advice. So, proceed in the manner you will at your own risk.

I upgraded my jailbroken ipad from 8.1 to 8.3
Reinstalled cydia and all my repos were still there
