Will macOS Sierra make my Mac run faster or slower?

Hi. I Upgraded my MBP (2012), from El Capitan to Sierra and it slowed my computer down to the point where it became unusable. I repaired the permissions, and even reinstalled El Capitan but it didn't help. My MBP is crawling and I'm hoping someone can walk me through a solution. Need help.

What can cause this?
- Also: I reset SMC and PRAM after update: http://techsviewer.com/macos-sierra-slow-fixes/
- I turned off FileVault encryption due to this site.

With a 2012 Mac there'll be no tangible benefit from disabling that feature.

If you like encryption, allow it.

What's the model identifier of the Mac? You'll find that and other information (memory, connected devices, types of connection and so on) in System Information.

Do you have an HD or SSD? If you have a normal disk a clean install will help a lot, your disk probably is so fragmented that the operating system is in little pieces on the whole disk.

To repair permissions: sudo /usr/libexec/repair_packages --repair --standard-pkgs --volume /

But let's be honest, repairing permissions ACTUALLY does about 0.00000325% of what people THINK it does. For the most part, logging out/in or restarting is what actually solves the problem that they think repairing permissions did.

Have anyone tried a real speed comparison on el cap and sierra? Same mac, same programs, apps, finder etc? I have used the betas on an 2009 imac, and i would say everything "feels" slower with sierra. If there aren't any under the hood stuff that is going to be vital, or make the hole OS faster than el cap, I think I wont upgrade on my studiomacs. Every single thing apple is highlightning about this release is COMPLETLY uninterresting for me, so there just got to be something else about it. Apples statement this is a major upgrade is pure marketing in my opinion, OSX 5 leopard, THAT was a major upgrade, sierra is not.

Well, subjectively, the UI feels more responsive for me, objectively, browser is significantly faster and the compiler tool chain produces faster code. It is very possible though that some legacy apps will run slower, especially those which are not following Apples dev guidelines.
