Will MBP ram fit in a MB?

I got an older generation 2.16ghz MB for a real good deal with 2 x 512mb of ram and my brother gave me his 2 x 1gb ram from his 2.4ghz MBP. I am almost positive that this ram will work in my MB (it maxes out at 2gb and has the specs as the MBP ram) but my brother told me otherwise but I am pretty sure I am right. Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks.
