OS X Will my Mac run games smoothly?

I have not gotten bootcamp yet but I am really considering getting it for the sole purpose of gaming.

My iMac 27' Mid 2011 has about only 145GB used. I don't know anything about the graphics card and stuff like that, but will this machine be able to play steam games like Far Cry 3 and Skyrim?

I did play some Batman Arkham City on my Mac, but that game is compatible with the mac, but I did notice there was some occasional choppyness.. Either way, thanks in advance for help.

I think you have at least an i5 under the hood and together with the AMD graphics card, you will be able to do some decent gaming on that rig. I do my gaming on consoles, but i do some porting using wine and what not from time to time. My iMac plays skyrim more than great under OSX. I have made the port myself. I don't know how the official version works, or even if there is an official version at all, but mine works really well. My piece of advice is to use the ported versions of the games, or the official ones from the appstore. I wouldn't "infect" my macs with bootcamp...

I have an iMac 2011 27 inch with 3.1 gig processor and 1 gig amd graphics card ( I think)

Played far cry 3 to end in decent graphic settings. Skyrim played well too.


Played a few hours of arkham city settings weren't max but didn't have any problems.

The 27-inch iMac from 2011 has a Radeon 6970M. Though outdated, it's still a decent mobile GPU. It should be capable of running modern games at 900p at high settings or 1080p and medium-high settings.

I would advise using Boot Camp if you're going to play any reasonably demanding games.
