plug it into a wall outlet in the Philippines? which uses 220v or do I have to buy an adapter?

My US-purchased power adapter supports the 230 volt outlets here in NZ, so I expect that yours will work too. However, the best thing to do is read the specs on the side of the adapter :)

Modern power supplies (including the Macbook Pro's 85w brick) are regulating the current already, so hooking up to a nonnative current will only require as much as a compliant tip. You can hook it without any adapters as it will convert the current to the proper amount before it hits your computer.
