hi!

So happy to finally be upgrading my 2009(mid) MBP to an i5 mid 2011 Mac Mini

My current 09 MBP has 8GB of RAM I bought on eBay a few years back which has been great and am wondering if the same RAM can be used on the desktop Mac Mini.

As long as the notch is in the right place, it should

According to crucial the MacBook Pro wants PC3-8500 and the Mac mini wants PC3-10600

If the older ram fits. Maybe it wont be as fast?

Double check the comparability of the modules on one of the online guides. The voltage and timing need to be right for the new system. At worse you'll need to buy 8GB for your mini for $40 or so.

Yeah , you don't need to check the voltages. In some book. That is what the Notch Key is for. Its impossible to put the ram in a different slot, because the key won't fit

Just bought 16GB of 1333mhz DDR3 PC10600 RAM for my Mid-2011 i5 Mac Mini

I believe it should work and should be the RAM exactly optimized for this particular Mac Model.

Im considering getting an SSD now since I currently have a 500GB HDD on this Mac Mini and I know SSDs and HDDs are worlds apart.

Sounds like it should be really fast when you are done. The SSD upgrade should make a night and day difference. I like the Samsung EVO 850. It provides good bang for the buck.
