Will Nokia's E61 work in the U.S.?

I have Cingular and am looking to dump my BlackBerry 7100g and getting the Nokia E61. I know they aren't releasing it officially in the U.S. but instead dumbing it down to the E62. I've found the E61 unlocked at a few a places and just wonder if it'll work right if I buy it that way.

--Never mind. I found out there's a Nokia flagship store on Michigan Avenue so I'm heading down there after work to check out their whole line.

I'd hold off on that.

I live in NYC. At J&R, a huge store here, they sold me the E61 w/Blackberry Connect service for $20/mo.

Here's what I've learned so far:

1) Nobody at T-Mobile has ever heard of this phone.

2) Nokia does not offer Blackberry Connect service for T-Mobile in the U.S.

3) I sucessfully downloaded a patch, gratefully, from a Berlin-based blogger.

4) it doesn't sync up with other applications

No included software support

It's a brilliant phone, but like the p910i, it's just not it's time or place to be in the U.S.. It's so brilliant it just outpaces everything that supports mobile phone culture here.

Song imports: strips the song title away when importing mp3's encoded in iTunes.

So good luck. Don't do it.

I'm using one with Tmobile right now, i got it from finland and it works without problem, it even detect my Edge connection automatically without me going into manual access point configure.

the only problem i have with this phone is i have to buy convertor for the charger as it uses 2 pong

but on BB connection, it's the same as what Ian said, no support from tmobile

I have been looking for the e61 at a good price, any suggestions where to get it for a cheap price unlocked. I want to use it on t-mobile in the USA. Also, is it hard to get the blackberry connect for it?

I don't know the specs of the e61, but I have a nokia N80, which is not sold here in the US either, and it works just fine with cingular, however I do very little data stuff, but for texts, and call just pop in your sim card and your set.

I have owned a Nokia E61, simply, it is the most perfect phone ever built, so solid, no creeks, the screen is out of this world, bright and crisp, it's like if Apple still cared about quality like they did 5 years ago, and they released a phone, this would've been it! My only problem with it was its size, it felt unnatural to hold against my ear, that is my only complaint, and since you had a blackberry, size shouldn't be that big a deal to you.

in any case, I used the phone with Cingular, it worked great since it's a Quadband and supports the 800mhz band that the majority of Cingular's towers use, but from what I know the 3G capability is designed for European carriers, I believe 2100 UMTS, so if sometime in the future Cingular rolls out a 3G service, this phone my not be able to make use of it, someone can correct me with this though if I'm wrong.

as for syncing up with your mac, out of the box, it doesn't sync, but there is a free iSync plugin you download to get it to work nicely, I had my calendar in iCal, and my contacts in Address book sync with no problem. this is the plugin: Plugin
