iPad Will not turn on intermittently

My iPad Air 2 was gifted to me 3-4 years ago (now is Aug 2017). Over that time, normal use is every evening for about three hours. The past three months, it has, from time to time, not turned on when the home button is pushed. This has increased in frequency and now occurs every other day. When that happens, I press the power and home button until the apple logo comes on. This is not the result of a discharged battery; the iPad always has some sort of charge. Tonight, it took a looooong time to boot up and had 47% power when it came back on. Is something wearing out or is it related to battery?

It sounds battery related, although I don't know for sure. If you call an Apple Care Advisor they should be able to run a battery diagnostic remotely. I was getting some wonky percentage readings on an iPhone with a battery that was shot.

Not sure about the long time to boot up, but the sometimes not waking up sounds like the same issue everyone (here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/new-ipad-pro-doesnt-wake-up-sometimes.2054864/) is having.

Honestly, it could be a million things. If it's gotten past the point of frustration for you and you have an Apple Store nearby I would make an appt with a Genius to run a diagnostic. That will at least tell you if it's a hardware issue. It's possible it's an iOS issue and in that case you just have to wait it out until the next update or iOS 11.

Alternatively, you can sign up for the iOS 11 beta. Back up your iPad before you install it so you can roll back if you have to. See if the issue persists on iOS 11.

If it's a hardware issue then you'll have to decide if it's worth fixing or not. It won't be cost effective to have Apple repair but there are less expensive repair shops that might be able to repair for less. But given the age of the Air 2 it's probably smarter money to just buy a new one. The iPP 9.7's are still being nicely discounted so it's not a terrible time to upgrade.
