HI,

Will O2 Unlock my phone if i have a O2 simplicity plan & take iphone 3gs on pay as you go with the simplicity plan on?

or will it ask me to wait for 12 months to get it unlocked?

If you purchased an iPhone on Pay as you Go, you have to wait 12 months after purchasing to unlock.

If you purchased an iPhone on contract you can unlock at any time, but are still bound to the terms of the contract (i.e. payment until the end of the 18 or 24 month agreement).

Actually the answers so far were crap.

In theory if you have a pay&go phone you have to wait the full 12 months, but in practice they can be unlocked. I have read of loads of people on simplicity plans that have been unlocked.

In my case I never used my pay&go sim. I put in for the unlock under that sim and they rejected it. So I put in the same details just said I was on contract and gave them my work O2 sim, and within 24 hours it was unlocked.

So my suggestion is put in for the unlock with the simplicity sim. You might be lucky and they unlock you. There is no harm in trying. And if they reject you try again. :)

Unfortunately this cannot be guaranteed. But was reading a post somewhere where an O2 CS told someone to stick an old iphone on their contract sim, and put in the unlock with that number, and not to use the pay&go sim. From what I have read it O2 is unlocking under any contract, no matter if the phone was originally on pay&go.

Thanks i do see a lot of post saying this can be done ...but has anyone tried it personally..............................

Well I have a 3g on pay&go, and O2 rejected my unlock request. So I stuck my corporate O2 card in the 3g and then sent another request for unlock against that number, even though they do not have any of my details, due to it being a corporate account, and it took 2 days to get an unlock.

Like yourself, I would like to know an answer for sure. In February 2010 I'm moving to Orlando for 9months, so wanting an iPhone that will work here and in USA.

I have a contact 02 account the now, and would buy the 3Gs on Pay and Go.... still use my contract until it runs out, and then use Pay&Go/PrePaid when I move to the USA.

It would save me buying a factory unlocked one from eBay.

Bought a 3GS on launch day on pay as you go. Stuck my Simplicity SIM in it and used it happily for a few months.

Requested an unlock as soon as it was possible and my phone was unlocked a week later with no questions asked. In my experience it works fine and I wasn't held to 12 months after buying the phone. Others seem to have had a different experience.

On Vodafone now and enjoying a much less congested internet experience.

Tom thanks for the info!

when you had you O2 simplicity sim,did you had the free data plan available for Pay as you go option or did you need to pay extra for data on O2 simplicity sim??

Also is there any one else tried this to get their iphone unlocked????

Thanks!!!

Did you read post # 6?

My friend has been on Simplicity for over 2 years. He's using it with a PAYG iPhone 3GS which he bought 2 months ago and submitted a request to get it unlocked last week.

They said yes, but he had to pay the £15 unlocking fee.

Yes - Purchased iPhone on prepaid - threw my Simplicity on since March this year and O2 unlocked my iphone
