Hi,
In april for my birthday I think I will be be selling my macbook pro and upgrading to one of the current 27" imacs, I need to as I need more power in my mac, bigger screen size and you get alot more for your buck for the imac. My only issue is are there any current rumors or up coming apple events in which apple could possibly bring out some new versons of the imac because I would be so angry/ annoyed if they did after i brought one.
thanks alot!

I place my money on June, more precisely WWDC '10. My guesses of next updates below:

March: iPad launch, maybe something about iPhone and it's next OS
April/May: MacBook Pros, Mac Pro (maybe MacBook)
June: iPhone, iMac, Mac Mini

Seems like Apple has alot on their plate to take care of before they get back to the iMac so I'm guessing August/September. I believe there's been years where there was only one iMac update before and I think that's what's going to happen this year. I agree that the update will be minor though.

I hope I'm wrong because I'll be looking to upgrade around April/May as well.

Id be guessing at a very late update if any (ie August/September if not January 2011). Im pretty sure that theyll be the very last things left for Apple to upgrade, since they had major revisions recently. Id also be guessing itll just be a speed bump if anything in the next 5-6 months, much as a 6-Core or 8-Core model would be nice xD.

I think there's almost no chance Apple won't update before the next Christmas shopping season -- i.e., by October. Will they update significantly before then? I don't know. They probably want to update around then to generate some good buzz going in the season. So is there room for an update before then? Sure, but not especially likely.

I was thinking the same thing about when to buy however I thought to myself that if you could wait until an update came along before you buy then did you really need the product in the first place.

So, I just went and bought the imac in Dec 2009

Future iMac upgrades?
- Perhaps "native" HDMI port (for connecting HDMI devices directly into back on unit).
- Perhaps BluRay?
- Perhaps i8 and faster chips?
- Perhaps better video?

Lots of ungrades that could be included in new "future" iMac builds. Thus, why I plan to focus on perhaps low to mid-level machine in fall 2010, then go with much better technology iMac in 3+ years.

.

Something to keep in mind here. If you really do NEED a new Mac right now, or even in April, I don't think you need to second guess yourself. These recent 27" iMacs (particularly the Quad core ones) are incredible computers and should keep pretty much anybody happy for a long time to come.

That said I have no qualms with purchasing one in April/May if that's the way it works out. I'd most likely get a nice discount (from the refurb store) by waiting until then as well.

The only thing keeping me from doing it now is I don't need one yet. This might change for me in April/May for various reasons. It might not either which would mean the waiting would continue.

Bottom line is I'll purchase when I need to, regardless of Apple's schedule, and get an unbelievable Mac. These iMacs will be just as amazing in April, May, or June as they were last November. :)

Whoa, you seriously think the pro line isn't coming out until Apr/May? If that's the case, man, I don't think I'll want to hang around the MBP forums until then lol.

I understand your thinking, but I don't agree the last iMacs will be as amazing as the new ones, if they include things like USB 3.0, blu-ray, and SSD. In my opinion, these things are worth waiting for.

But of course, importance of features, and priority of use of the machine varies greatly from user to user.

I agree but those are all BIG "ifs". :)

My plan is to get a job soon and save up most of the money, and then by the time the next refresh comes around (hopefully around June), I should hopefully have almost enough to buy one, or at least within a month.
