Will the 15.4" MacBook Pro drop in price?

It seems like the price difference between the 2.16GHz 15.4-inch MacBook Pro is too expensive when compared to the new, comparable 17-inch MacBook Pro. They are quite close in price, but you get a lot of pluses with the 17-inch model (SuperDrive, Monitor/screen resolution, drive, ports).

Does anyone have any idea whether Apple will likely drop the price on the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro?

(The 17-inch just seems too big for a portable, but I sure like the better SuperDrive and extra ports!)

from what i have seen and read, the prices that apple has throughout the lifespan of a product the pricing will not flux to much nor drop a substancial amt. so that being said i dont believe that the price will drop.. if you do a search there is a few topics that cover the same thing.

Don't expect a price drop. When hardware prices drop, Apple usually just bumps up the hardware to faster or bigger things. Check the refurb store for a small discount.

Maybe not a price drop per se, but I would expect updates to the MacBook Pro (and Macs in general) to happen more frequently and to be more substantial. Thus, the older versions should drop in price faster.

For example, the iBook hasn't been updated in almost 10 months! The current price for a 12" G4 1.33 iBook is still the same as 10 months ago. But the day the new MacBooks are announced, retail stores with start clearing out their G4 iBook stock by offering sale and clearance prices.

With the Intel chips, I would expect updates more in the 4-6 month range.
