hey guys,

I have iOS 11.1 beta in new iPad. I’ll have an appointment at the Genius Bar and due to my probeldm I’ll likely get a new iPad.
Right now, unfortunately I’ve never made a backup so my first backup would be on iOS 11.1.

The new iPad will probably have iOS 10 still or iOS 11.0.1. Can I put the iOS 11.1 backup on a device running 11.0.1 or even iOS 10?

If not, can I just update the new iPad to 11.1 beta 1 and set it up with the backup?

Thank you!

maybe but dont expect it, also depends if the backup is encrypted or not, assuming the way years ago still works. u'd have to change the version in some plist file i think, but it sometimes has issues with settings etc. but since u can just update to ios 11.1 beta 1 first, do that then restore the backup. simpler, easier, faster, no chance of problems that way.

Whenever i’ve tried to create a device from a backup iTunes has refused if the device wasn’t already at the same build of iOS or higher.

I don’t know if that would be different from an iCloud backup, and i’ve never tried with a Beta build so that might have a ‘get out’ clause in case the Beta build seems to cause problems as you are having.
