Hey guys,
I was just wondering whether you think the base, 2.3GHz Mini with a 4GB RAM upgrade would last 2 and a half years comfortably? I plan on getting a MacBook Pro when I go off to university, but would quite like a desktop now.
My uses will be:
Web browsing
Document editing
Photo editing (using Aperture 3, possibly future software like Aperture 4...)
Thanks for your help.

No Problem

I have had my Mac MINI for about 3 years now with only a 2Ghz processor and 1 GB of memory and it has served me very well and continues to do so, so there is no doubt that the new Mac should last you years and years.

That should be fine. I would upgrade the RAM to 8GB (2x4GB) not 4GB (2x2GB) yourself though. 8GB RAM isn't much more expensive and you'll probably want to have at least 8GB RAM to run the next version of Mac OS X well.

I agree. I bought the base model and then 8gb of crucial ram for 50$. and its for 50$ well spent

I have 2-3.5ish year old minis that get used daily for audio conversion and some robot tasks. They are still trucking along with not a single problem. Sure are outdated looking tho!

Yes, you will really like the computer! I have a 2.5 year old 2.0 GHZ Core 2 Duo I use connected to TV, and it's completely competent.

Yours will have a *MUCH* faster processor.

8GB ram is so cheap from OWC you can even put 8GB in it if you want, but 4GB will be fine too.

Enjoy it! That computer will be faster than just about every consumer Mac from a couple years ago, so honestly, you'll really be good to go.

My mini, my main desktop, will be turning three this coming March and is still going strong! 2.0GHz C2D, 8GB RAM, 320GB HDD. I've bumped the RAM from its original 1GB, and the HDD from its original 120GB, and it's been a treat. I plan on getting at least another year and a half out of it, hopefully more :)

Of course it will last for three years, at least for me. I have the Apple care for the added just in case warranty :D
