Subject: Will the Chinese Coronavirus event affect MP7,1 deliveries from China ?

It seems that around 30 million Chinese people are in a 'lock down' state in order to stymie the Coronavirus spreading. It has started to be detected in WA state over past few days as well.

I'm wondering if this event will in some way hinder MP7,1 deliveries from China and if the shipping boxes that do make it through to the States will be sanitized in some way so that the virus does not spread further ?

If you're talking about assembled, ready to go MP7,1 models with USA destination, those are supposed to come from Austin and would not have a delay if parts are already on-hand. (Unconfirmed if rack mount version for USA is indeed shipped from Austin.)

If you're asking about PARTS for assembly to make it to Austin, that depends on supply chain and origination. As of right now, cargo from China is not being screened internationally destined for the USA. That is subject to change very soon. Would not be shocked to see a customs delay on import, however.

Worldwide shipments will all depend on the destination country. Some are very strict with things like this and others are more relaxed.

Possibly for the logistical reasons but not for virus infection.

Since it is similar to cold and/or flu virus we can guess from what we know about them.
According to this link, it can stay potentially infective for upto 48 hours.

Given that it takes more than 48 hours to ship from China to USA, I would say the chances are low.

Came across this info ->

I called my Apple Business contact about this, and I asked if my MP7,1 would be shipping from China or Austin. My delivery is for a location in WA state. I was told it was not possible to say if the MP7,1 would ship from China or Austin, and the only way to know would be when the MP7,1 was in the shipping phase so it can be tracked or to check the physical shipping label when the MP7,1 is eventually delivered.

ALL tower configurations for lower 48 USA destinations ship from Austin, that is part of the tariff negotiation/agreement. If your business rep does not know this, they are not based in the USA and/or did not look at your specific order.

Unconfirmed if rack configuration ships from Austin.
Unconfirmed if tower with wheels configuration ships from Austin, but it is supposed to.
Unconfirmed if tower configuration for Hawaii/Alaska ships from Austin, but it is supposed to.

When was your order placed and what exact config?

Thanks for your info/insights....
Our order is.... (it does have the wheel option). Order was placed Dec 12, and its configuration was changed Dec 21. Its estimated delivery is Feb 7-13 at this time.

Mac Pro

Hardware:
  • 3.2GHz 16‑core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz
  • 32GB (4x8GB) of DDR4 ECC memory
  • 1TB SSD storage
  • Radeon Pro Vega II with 32GB of HBM2 memory
  • Apple Afterburner card
  • Stainless steel frame with wheels
  • Magic Mouse 2
  • Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad - US English
  • Accessory Kit
Software:
  • macOS
  • Photos, iMovie, GarageBand
  • Pages, Numbers, Keynote

All orders with wheels have continued to slip. Adds at least 2-3 weeks on orders placed today. Same config has a Feb 18 - Feb 25 delivery estimate if ordered right now, identical without wheels Feb 4 - Feb 6.

The coronavirus is not going to impact your timeline unless it spreads more massively to the USA and/or impacts domestic shipping (FedEx, UPS, USPS).

Dear Apple,

Will The Plague affect delivery of my Mac Pro?

I did not get the wheels, they don't offer them for XDR stand?

Note to self: should make CP/M Z80 card compatible.

I ordered our MP7,1s on Dec 12. (one order, both machines are identical - and with wheels - cost me a month extra but I saw it late - anyway under the desk the machine seemed too heavy to not have wheels so I didn't try to change the order and swallowed the extra month.)

Both are said to be on their way.
- one is on its way with UPS
- the other is going to be delivered by DHL
Guess somebody is doing A/B testing over at apple.

Both were originally scheduled for delivery between 3 and 7 Feb.

The one with UPS shipped from Shanghai on the 22nd and is currently sitting at customs in Köln, Germany since the early hours of the 25th (customs...).
UPS estimates the delivery on the 28th.

The other one shipped hours later and is said to arrive via DHL, but DHL claims they'll only pick it up in Waalwijk, The Netherlands (that's the usual place apple gear flows through in my experience). DHL is still waiting to get it there.
DHL estimates delivery on the 30th.

UPDATE:
- the "UPS" one is still at customs in Köln, more than 3 days now (weekend + slacking might be involved). UPS still estimates to get it to us tomorrow.
- The "DHL" one is now in the hands of DHL and they are moving it inside the Netherlands. Updated ETA also tomorrow.
Race is on! And it feels so far the DHL one might end up winning (no more gov. red tape to be expected on that one)

If you don't mind me asking, how did that spec get priced to $12711? The regular quote comes to $17348. Even with my business discount, I can't get that far....

Thanks
