I'd like to get an iPad pro but I'm turned off by the protruding cameras on the back. My iPhone has them too but I use the iPhone in hand most of the time. I'm thinking the iPad would wobble if it's on a flat surface for drawing or taking notes.

Does an iPad really need a camera with protruding lenses - how much use do you guys get out of it (I can't imagine ever using it given that my iPhone is always with me)? I guess a case is a must in this situation, though I prefer to use my devices caseless but this may hinder the iPad's use.

Why not put a case on the iPad Pro to fix the protruding lenses problem?

Just get an iPad Air instead if it really bothers you. Apple seems to want the Pro to have good cameras and that means a big camera module that won't fit in the thickness of the device.

I swear it's like a meme or something around here, the camera bump is such a non issue

Haven't visited this forum in along time so not sure if it's memed or not. How does it feel when using the iPad on a flat surface? Doesn't sound like you guys really use the camera either.

I use the camera for some things. Document scanning mainly..
It wobbles on a flat surface, if you physically wobble it, but it’s not really something that’s at all noticeable when using. My use cases are; photo editing, note taking, drawing and design, video edits, some games and general computer use (office/browsing etc).

i must note that mines a 2018 edition, still has a camera bump, but not of the scale of the 2020 version.

Well said, it’s time for a pro device that doesn’t wobble anymore without extra purchases needed. As someone who likes to use the device ceaseless and flat on a surface it’s a no brainer that tablets should be flat.
Camera bumps are just ugly and the saved thickness in places could probably be better used like for more battery capacity.

Interesting, I guess it’s down to personal preference if we notice the wobble or not. I have to test this again with my wife’s 11”but I found it annoying in the past.

Q. Will the iPad ever have non-protruding cameras?
A. Not for the foreseeable future.

This is the primary reason why Apple no longer makes covers for the iPad Pro. Their folios are of sufficient thickness so that the camera bezel is flush with the outside part of the folio. No smartcovers. No smartkeyboards.

I prefer to use a smartcover on the front, and clear skin on the back. I preferred it when I had my 1st gen 12.9 iPad Pro. I'm now using that with my 2018 9.7" iPad.

At least the bump makes it easier to pick up the flat-sided iPad Pro when it's laid flat on a surface. 😁

The camera bump does not worry me the slightest. I have never noticed any rocking. And one of the joys of the iPad Pro is the good camera. I use mine mainly for document scanning and often for taking videos (with IPP on stand) - and occasionally for photos when I see something to shoot, and the IPP is closer to hand than the iPhone. I have at times considered using the IPP more for photography, as I do enjoy the experience - I can see a lot better what I am actually taking than using the iPhone.

I would be very against making the iPad Pro thicker, or reducing the camera quality.
