Hi guys! :)

I know the event today is a so-called "preview" but I was wondering if major new OS's for the iPhone will be released in a downloadable beta-version?

As I don't believe it would I'd like to know if it's likely that we'll see "leaks" (maybe provided by the jailbreak-community)? It'd be nice if any of you has experience with previous major updates (2.0 and 3.0) :)

I can't wait to see if this'll be just like the iPad-announcement and leave us all thinking "Where's the one more thing?" ;)

Happy waiting :)

Mathias

Maybe a (feature incomplete) beta for developers, but that'll be it.

Nope. It will be previewed today, developers might start to get their hands on the SDK and simulator, and then it will be publicly released in the June/July time-frame when iPhone 4th-gen is announced.

Fixed it.

Consumers will not be getting 4.0 today and developers will most likely get 4.0 beta 1 today.

I think my dev subscription ran out so I probably won't get it today.

Edit: Yup, I no longer have developer access.

Nope, like every other iPhone preview, its just going to give us a taste of what it will be like. They'll probably give some betas to developers but the release version won't see the light of day until late June or July.

Keep in mind that the 3.0 betas were not the most stable things. I doubt it's something you'd want to download leaked and 'upgrade' to.

3.0 isn't even something that I want the final version of ;)

Last year I managed to get it when it came out because I asked a developer to add my device to the list of registered devices that are allowed to run the beta software.

But we do not know that the iPhone OS 4.0 will be released to developers today itself; it might and similar releases have come out on the day of their announcement but we're not completely sure.

The logic is that they need to give developers enough time to get their app releases with the new features completed in time for the summer release.

4.0 beta 1 will be out today.

too old?

I heard that 4.0 wont be compatible with the first gen iphone. Is my first gen phone going to get the update? Or must I move up to a 3G?

i reckon that 4.0 beta 1 will be released to developers after the event. This will give time for them to optimise their apps for the new version. I really cant wait :)
