I have a really old Sony Clie that uses the Palm software. I'd like to get rid of it if the iPhone comes with a calendar that will sync up to my PC like the Palm does. Does this sound like a feature that the iPhone will be capable of at launch or something that could be added later as a 3rd party application? I called 800MYAPPLE and got two conflicting responses. One person said that it would have it and the other said it wouldn't. Does anyone here have an idea of the probability that the iPhone will have it?

If you're looking for calendering, then yes, I'm pretty sure the iPhone can handle that. Now if you use a lot of third party applications, then you'd be out of luck, but the iPhone should be able to handle the "classic" PDA functions like calendering and addressbooks.
Yes, all I'm looking for are basic calendaring functions such as:
- Scheduling Events (birthdays, meetings...)
- Scheduling reminders for the events above
- Syncing my contact lists
Most of all I'd like it to have an interface on my computer that I can type into and transfer (by syncing) to the phone. Similar to the Palm calendar.

iPhone is hardly a device that will replace the PDA. Calendar and Address book are common in many phones.
If you are looking to replace your Palm OS phone, you are probably out of luck because last I heard Palm will be using Windows Mobile on their devices from now on. Their new smartphone that comes out will be using WM6.

I agree. As more details are revealed about what the iPhone lacks, I am leaning toward holding onto my current PDA phone and trying the iPhone for 30 days to see if it's something I can live with.

you mean EVERY phone even the cheapest crappiest nokias have PIM?
PIM is nothing new, if the iphone really wanted to compete, they would do what blackberry does, blackberry has intelisync, it can sync with almost ANY PIM out there, outlook (this is the biggest one), lotus notes, palm stuff, etc, etc, etc. i dont think apple is going about the iphone the right way, they lock it down too much to suit the majority of the people (IE NO SDK). if they wernt so nazi it would be an even bigger success
