The MBA has traditionally has been quite scattered release wise compared with other models.
With an early 2008 launch, a late 2008 refresh, a mid 2009 refresh and a fall 2010 relaunch.
So realistically its possible for the Sandy Bridge refresh to hit anywhere 7-12 months after new version putting it as Summer 2011 to Fall 2011.
I plan on selling my macbook pro and getting a MBA but will the MBA be getting the Sandy Bridge any time soon?
I would think by the time Lion is released. In fact I'm sure all the macs will have some kind of update, even if it's a spec bump.
I am not that excited about Thunderbolt yes every new Mac refreshed will get that port but I am guessing it would be like the Firewire port not that much mass acceptance, just wondering will Mac's ever get the USB 3 port coz I am seeing quite a few USB 3 devices now in the market and USB 2 is looking slow when you transfer a lot of HD stuff.
If they added USB3 then that would be it. Thunderbolt is not locked into 1 protocol so you'll be able to use it for USB3, Firewire, anything you wish.
I guess it was more intelligent than saying "by Tim Cook's next birthday". . . but still there's really no correlation between Lion and a new hardware release given that Lion is designed to work on almost anything made in the last several years.
Does MBA really need sandy Bridge processor?
MBA isn't designed to be used as your ultimate gaming machine or to be used as intense CPU/GPU machine.
I don't see MBA updating for another 6-8 months.
iPad is next and then iMac and apple will go all the way in with iPhone 5 this summer.
MBA is a machine that should be used as light portable laptop. If you want sandy bridge, then go buy MBP.
Core 2 Duo will be the minimum CPU requirement for Lion.
