will the mms carrier update break my unlock on my phone?

It will not break your jailbreak, but why would you update the AT&T carrier settings if you're unlocked to different carrier?
That I imagine it will break.
Well then you should be fine with the AT&T carrier file that will be sent out today and then you go to a different carrier just use a site like http://help.benm.at/ to get your new carrier's MMS settings.
i should be fine with the 5.1 hacked att file right? i dont NEED the latest carrier file for MMS if i already have MMS working?
I want to do the update but I'm on 3.0 jailbroken 3gs and don't want to update to 3.1. Does anyone have the carrier update so that we can apply without getting it downloaded through Itunes? When I plug into itunes it's not giving me the option to install the update and I assume it's because I'm on 3.0 not 3.1.
Ok, dumb question but I can't find the definitive answer anywhere - if I download the new carrier settings onto my 3.1 jailbroken 3G, will the phone become un-jailbroken??

Carrier update the worst it will do is break tethering on 3.1 firmware.
Uh, sure, definitive enough. I searched. I found nothing with mroogle. How else would I have known the answer without updating and possibly losing my jailbreak??

While it might be common sense I can see where fear of loosing the JB would overrule common sense.
Looking over this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/792894/ shows that no JBs have been lost.
I updated to the 5.5 carrier setting on my 3GS. I previously had tethering before hand which i forgot if i put a hacked carrier file. (no mms tho) I updated to 5.5 and tethering is STILL there and I have MMS
