Will the new AirPods wireless charging case come as standard?

Hi everyone,

I really want some AirPods now I have my iPhone X, but wanted to know if we are expecting Apple to include the upcoming wireless charging case as a standard. Or if they will sell this separately to the AirPods, in which case I will just go ahead and buy the AirPods now!

Apple will likely continue to manufacture the Airpods as they have been with the standard battery case. The wireless charging case will be a separate purchase to be compatible with the Airpower.

My guess is that it will be standard. It wouldn’t cost a lot to add (just a coil for the receiver) and it would encourage sales of things like the AirPower charger, and simplify their inventory management as they only have to make one case not two

I’m thinking it’s just going to be an optional case.

From what I recall in the keynote (or media coverage of the keynote), that it was going to be a separate purchase. My guess is that the case makers will have a jell case to cover the wireless case as it to be surrounded by glass like the iPhone X

surely the new case will be the standard, and the old one will be phased out
it will be wireless or with lighting cable, you cannot have 2 options in the store
who the hell will buy a 2nd case????

Not likely.

Last I checked wireless charging works fine through plastic just not well through metal. The phone is only glass back because Apple doesn’t make cheap plastic phones.

100% without a doubt it’ll be standard of the case not an optional additional case.

I really hope they replace the case with the wireless one as standard. And that the only reason they haven't announced that is so that people still continue to buy the current one until they're ready to release the new wireless version. Simply can't justify the cost of the airpods & the wireless case, but don't want them if I can't have both, too used to Qi now.

I like the Qi charging on my phone but doubt I would miss it on my EarPods.

They aren’t something I charge as frequently as my phone so wired doesn’t bother me.
