Will the NEW i5's Mac Minis work with Autocad for Mac 2011?

Chances are that they haven't updated there site, seeing as the minis and lion just came out, and no one knew they were coming until Tuesday during the conference call.

Seeing as how it already worked on the macbook air, last year I think your safe.

What are the specs on the macbook air you just mentioned?

My current machine is a Macbook with Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB of DDR2 Ram BUT graphics are the Intel GMA X3100 that's not even mentioned on their site.

I think any mac from Jan 1, 2009 is good to go. My '08 Uni is running it fine.

it'll run, but I'm not sure you'll want to run it on an integrated GPU...
 
I've tried to install it on my 08 Macbook with the 3100's graphic card and got a message that it is not supported. After that, it would not install. Mine has a Core Duo 2, 4 gigs of Ram and Snow Leopard. (Upgraded from Leopard)

Right, but your pre 5,1 MacBook has a GMA X3100, Aldaris' Unibody '08 MacBook 5,1 has an Nvidia 9400M. The 9400M is substantially faster than the X3100. The requirements for auto cad state that 5,1 or higher is required.
 
What does 5.1, 6.1, etc. mean? Is there an identifier through System Profiler?

Obviously, I will not be able to even install it with my current Macbook; will seek to get the new Mini, even the basic one.

Well.

The new Mac Mini doesn't have an optical drive so, at this point, is useless to me. Will the 2010 Mac Mini run well Autocad for Mac 2011, given the fact that the 2010 mini comes with the NVIDIA GeForce 320M with 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM ?

I also do a lot of recordings via Garageband and burn discs from there.

You could always use remote disc (basically sharing a fellow computers disc drive to you drive less air or mini) or get an external superdrive. The '11 mini will run it just fine especially with the improved processor. The '10 will also run it albeit not as well as the new model, but still I think you'll find it a good experience.

*the X,Y on a given model is basically the model/generation identifier in Snow Leopard (10.6) and older you can find it in System Profiler, in Lion (10.7) and newer you'll find it under System Information, either will be found in your utilities folder.

I will prefer to stay with a clean desk, so, another device just to burn CD's/DVD's is not under consideration. (Burning is random, maybe a couple of discs per week, that's all but I do watch DVD's on the Macbook, connected to a Samsung LCD monitor) I want the Mini to be my primary computer.

The comment you made about sharing is interesting. Lets say I have my old Macbook side by side with the new Mini (w/o the optical drive: how do I burn a CD or DVD, being the file and app on the new Mac Mini? Do I need to physically connect them or can it be done wirelessly? I have a WiFi cable modem at home.
