Hey guys,

I know Apple's a huge advocate of the small packaging, and I'm pretty sure that they will try to do the same for the new iMacs in a few days. Still, there's not much they can do with the box-the keyboard is quite big and everything else needs protection. Do you think they'll take away the Apple remote to "make up" for lost space?

On a side note, if they do keep the remote, will it be changed to aluminum and not plastic? will it be magnetic to the side of the computer?

Thanks for the help! I can't wait to buy one of the new iMacs!

Hey macfan, you know what ? I was actually thinking about this the other day myself, and im guessing that Apple will most likely reduce the packaging size and making it "slimmer" as they do have a bit of room in the current packaging to move around and make it smaller....

We will soon find out in a few days :)

The iMac's last substantial re-design was the move to aluminum in August of 2007. Another major redesign so soon would be unusual, although not impossible, considering that the Alum iMac redesign had the smallest changes in the sequence (original CRT -> "lamp" LCD -> White iMac -> Alum iMac). My guess is the most likely change will be an upgrade to the internals, with a major form redesign far less likely.

Actually, he is talking about the actual packaging that the iMac comes in. Not the computer itself.

An iMac box when full of contents is quite heavy. Maybe a small reduction in packaging is in order. The only way I can see the packaging get bigger is if a 30" iMac is introduced :p

i think they should make the boxes smaller, just like with the macbooks.. even though it's a different design the macbooks are still the same size, but now we have smaller, less clunky boxes

:p Whoops - I read the "box" part as an metaphor for the case. Personally, I like the box size - I use my iMac box as a temporary bed-side table, pending the recession-induced-delay of a redecoration of my bedroom:

I would think it's possible for them to make the computer a tad lighter consider the LED display weighs the same; as for the shipping box itself, I would have guessed they would make the padding denser, and small, but not make it so small it couldn't protect the computer against drops and such.
