Or they're going to be out a little bit later?

Thanks!

It never has been in the USA! Will be a few weeks for sure before you see that option in the USA.

By “never”, you must mean “..in the US...”

In many other countries, including the U.K., simfree iPhones have always been available from launch day.

So, in the U.K. in particular they will be available at launch? Is that right?

Yeah, they are always available sim free in UK at launch.

That’s really annoying. I just moved to the USA from the UK. I was hoping to join the US version of iUP with a sim free phone / or without having to sign up to a carrier plan.

Mobile price plans here are so expensive compared to the UK.

U can always join T-Mobile for example and then change carriers if you want. It’s the beauty of the IUP. You’re not locked into a carrier. You can always change.

Oh. Can guy share any more details about t-mobile?

I have a corporate sim so don’t want to be locked into a long term contract but if there’s something about t-mobile that allows me to join the iUP that might be useful to know. Thanks

Isn’t the T-Mobile version always unlocked?

Nope. T-Mobile phones are locked if you join their Jump program or finance a phone with them. If you buy your phone through Apple IPhone upgrade program you are free to change carrier or SIM cards. It’s an unlocked phone.

Same if you pay upfront through Apple and just pick you carrier, those are also unlocked, right?

So I just had a chat with t mobile. Their one and essential plans are no contract. So I could sign up this week and just get a sim and BYOD (use my X this week) Then on pre order/launch day join iUP. I can then cancel my t mobile contract after a month.

Anyone done this before?

In the USA they will be about a month later, this is to give advantage to the carriers, Because the carriers are kings, and heavily protected by the government and apple must abide by these industry standard practices.

and pay your ETF.

Don't you mean carrier free?
You can buy a phone at a carrier for full price and have it unlocked from carrier 5 min later.

Last year the 8/8 Plus were available at launch as "Sim Free" which is carrier agnostic. This model had all the bands for the 4 major US carriers. The T-Mobile version of the 8/8 Plus, if purchased from Apple is also "Unlocked" meaning you can use it on any US carrier but was only optimized for T-Mobile/ATT (GSM).

The X on the other hand, did not have a "Sim Free" model that had all the bands until a month or so later. They did have the T-Mobile model that was only optimized for GSM that you could purchase online from Apple and it would be Unlocked meaning it can be used on any carrier (with some band limitations).

So the 8/8 Plus was available Sim Free on launch but the X wasn't.

If you pay MSRP it’s probably not going to be an issue anymore. Rumors suggesting just one modem so don’t have to worry about GSM only version.

T mobile said there wasn’t an ETF because their plans don’t have a minimum term.

The Unlock sim free version actually come out around 3rd week of November but they their is such a demand for it; it usually is backorder for a couple of weeks afterwards.

Yes I am referring to the USA
I wish. Usually takes a few months once the supply issues are ironed out.

But in the US, you can’t just have one shipped to your house on launch.

You have to tie it to a number and carrier, which I do not want to do. Hence, I have to wait....

One Intel branded modem, icky. I also read Intel cant get yield up. So will be lottery with Qualcomm still mixed in. My bet, Verizon handsets will still be Qualcomm for the known state of their CDMA performance.

Keeping my Qualcomm. Rumor is Apple will be switching again back to Qualcomm or Mediatek for the 2020.

Will they even need cdma in 2020. Suppose they could get without cdma radios and not pay royalties
