I'm looking to purchase the Sennheiser PC PRO Gaming Headset PC360 to use with my 2009 Mac Pro mainly for Skype, Starcraft 2 and a few other games but the headset is not USB.

I heard that the Mac Pro doesn't support audio in, with the 3.5mm jack and wanted to make sure this would work fine before I bought it. Thanks

It might work, but probably not. The Mac Pro supports line in, but not mic in (amplified). You can try it and hope that the headphones have a line-level mic. If they don't, you can buy an in-line amplifier or get one of these: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/

I also have the same question but with my macbook pro. Will the sennheisers PC 360 work with my macbook, at least the headphones, I dont mind the mic.

Same thing with the Macbook, all inputs are Line-In, the headset should work fine as a headset, but you'll need something like the iMic to use the Mic.

The mic wont work - unless the mic has a line-level output, something that is quite unlikely. I checked the PC360 specs in the Sennheiser site, and it seems it doesn't.

I guess that's why Sennheiser offers separate headsets for Macs, including gaming. Have you considered this one? It's USB, but otherwise has very similar specs as the 360.

Macbook Pros also have the same issue: only line level input. My 2008 MP worked with a simple pc mic for a while, but upgrading to Leopard disabled this possibility. So now, all macs are either internal, USB or line-level mics. Too bad....

Bought a Sennheiser PC 36 for e-learning via WEBEX/ Skype Meetings etc. Installed okay, but no sound through skype or FaceTime. Thankfully after reading these posts, I thought to check system preferences and SOUND - only to find I had to select that I wanted to use the USB headset and not the internal speaker/mic for sound, input and output. All working fine (almost).
