Will the SIM card from iPhone 3G work in a iPhone 2G?

it should work, then again when i called at&t about getting the new one and selling my old one she said and i quote "the new one is 3G so it needs a different sim than you have in your current one" which is wrong because the SIM in the iphones now is a 3G sim. i think most at&t employees are dumb but if you pop out your sim card it says 3G on it
How about obtaining an iPhone 3G and simply popping in my iPhone 2G sim card? While I be able to use iPhone 3G keeping my original account at $60/month + 200 text at 3G speeds?
Nope, AT&T won't let you out the door without activating your iPhone with one of the new 3g iPhone plans.

I tried but my new sim card in my 2g iphone and it said I had to activate it via itunes for a new account. I should be able to go back and forth between phones right?

But say you bought the phone off of someone, would it work with the current data plan? I've also read that regular at&t sims will work on the 3g iphone because of the 2.0 firmware. Can anyone confirm that this is true?
I activated the old phone with the new sim in it. Notice on iTunes saying wait for an email. I got an email from AT&T saying we'll let you know when it's activated, then another when I was told it was.
Somewhere in there I was asked to pay $20 for the 2g iPhone Data plan. I agreed (AT&T will fix that).
Then the 2g had service and I put the card back into the 3g where it belonged and that worked also.
NOW - his 3g's SIM can be swapped back/forth just fine. I didn't have to do any of this with my 2g/3g iPhones. Odd.

Just leave the 2G iphone jailbroken instead of doing a second activation and swap the sims when necessary
Didn't even think of that. I jailbroke our old 2g's but didn't do the unlock. I could've just added the unlock. Duh. Oh well. Same result.Question
