Will the sim card of a 3GS work on a 3G (and vice versa)?

I have a 3G and my mom recently got herself a 3GS. But she only uses it to make phone calls so she offered to exchange her with mine. The only way to do this is if I can switch out the sim cards.

So is the sim card of a 3GS compatible with a 3G?
