I'm selling my iPhone to not-so-technically savvy friend of mine, and I think the things I did with my jailbroken phone will just confuse her. However, she is moving out of the country so the unlock needs to still be in place. I understand that the unlock works by updating the baseband, so if I restore via iTunes, will the baseband not be altered? Thanks.

2g or 3g ?

I don´t know about that sorry :) but I think it will break the unlock... it did even on my 2g and that was definately not supposed to happen....

If you restore to a "vanilla" IPSW you will loose all applications that are currently "unofficial" including the ultrasn0w app (mod? framework?) The ultrasn0w works by injecting a payload each time the iPhone boots-so it is not a permanent unlock like the unlocks for the iPhone 2G.

And then of course since your JB is gone, there is no way to reinstall it.

So if she is counting on unlock-best not restore.

just do a clean jailbreak/unlock and put cydia way on the last page of the springbard ... :) If shes not really good with technology she´ll have a problem anyways when 3.1 comes out iin two weeks and the iphone "magically updates itself" (or she tried to click the popups away and clicked yes instad of no ;-) )
but seriously better keep the jailbreak because who knows what way the unlock for 3.1 will come ...
