Conversation between me and my wife.

EugW: I'm not upgrading my 7 Plus this year, so you can't have it. However, since you need a phone, let's just upgrade your 6s to an XR.
Wife: Sounds good.
EugW: It comes in several colours. My favourite is red, but you choose since it's your phone.
Wife: <Checks Apple.ca> Will it have those 2 bubbles?
EugW: Uh, what?
Wife: Does it have the 2 bubbles?
EugW: ...
Wife: There's 2 bubbles and I'm wondering if it has to have it.
EugW: I have no idea what you are talking about.
Wife: Check the Apple site, it has 2 bubbles.
EugW: <Checks Apple.ca>

EugW: Ah I see. No it won't have those 2 bubbles. :D

LOL love it.

My wife is hoping to upgrade this year, and after looking I thought the XR would be perfect for her. Bonus that they’re colourful and she could pick something that she likes.

Then she dropped it on me: “Why don’t you give me your X and get the new Max or whatever its called”
Me “No, there’s enough temptation already, I don’t need you to encourage me as well.”
Her “No seriously, I know you’re going to want it, just go for it and I’ll take your phone”

I was close to pulling the trigger last Friday but held off, mostly because I really enjoy the X and its size right now, I need to practice some restraint, and because the price increase has gone higher than what I’m willing to budget for upgrading every year.

Choice made. It's blue!

Now I just want final confirmation that Zoomed Display mode is supported, and we're good to go. (This feature is supposedly supported on the XR according to images pulled out of iOS 12.) I showed her that feature a little while ago on her 6s. Apparently, after several years, she was completely unaware of it, but now that is all she uses.

^Love the blue. That's probably the colour I'd go with. Actually would be tough toss up with the red.

That's interesting. Display Zoom apparently on the XR (and I assume XS Max) but isn't on the X/XS?

I wonder why that is. I guess with the 6/Plus when it launched the aspect ratio was the same as the previous 4" phones so display zoom was scaling up the older UI to the larger display? Maybe Display Zoom on the XR/XS Max will draw the UI from the X/XS?

Correct. Those guys said iOS 12 refers to this feature for the XS Max as well. But no mention of the X or XS.

No idea why. Quite strange, considering her 6s has it.

The 6S has an existing smaller screen that it can scale to - the 5/5S. The X doesn't have anything smaller in the same ratio they can use to scale with... that's my theory on why it doesn't have it!

Interesting theory. Note that the 5/5C/5S/SE doesn't have this feature and can't scale down to anything either. It's also of note that the SE came out after the 6, but the 6 has Zoomed Display. So, that supports your theory.
