If you know for sure you are going to buy one then go down to your Apple store and see if you can reserve one.![]()
Do retail stores stock any with BTO options?
If you go to the apple store they do the custom build for you then and there
This is not true at all in my experience. They can do minor upgrades like more main memory, but if you want a custom HDD/SSD setup, they cannot do that for you in-store.
This is not true. BTO models can only be configured and purchased online. Some stores may stock already-configured BTO models, but you can't reconfigure them in the store. If you go to the apple store they do the custom build for you then and there
Call them.is there any way to find out if "your" store will have the new models in stock?
Call them.
Exactly! Which is why no one else knows, either. Personally, if I were ready to buy, I'd avoid all the release-day mayhem and let things die down first. I also only buy what I need, when I need it from available models, so I don't worry about upcoming releases. Anything you buy will be an "older model" within a year or so, so it's pointless to try to stay on the "bleeding edge" of technology updates. But that's just me.The problem is that they often do not know. They don't get advanced warning about what they are getting shipped. Whatever shows up on the dock that morning is what they get. So they can say that they probably will be getting stock, but they might not know for sure.
