Title says it all: wondering if Apple maps will extend past iOS and be accessible via the web.

Just for grins, I tried the URL maps.apple.com and it resolves (on all devices and browsers) to maps.google.com.

Not sure if that's new or old behavior...

It's not resolving like that. The web site is redirecting.

Code:
nslookup maps.apple.com

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: gsps28.isg-apple.com.akadns.net
Address: 17.174.2.104
Aliases: maps.apple.com
          gsps28.ls.apple.com

I guess it is possible.

Only with some work: Apple are using vectors for the maps (satellite imagery excluded) so it would take some effort to get those viewing correctly in a web browser

Yeah, I should have edited "resolves" to "points to" but I'm lazy today... :D

WRT vectors v. raster: I could envision Apple rasterizing tiles much like how Google and everyone else serves up maps today. Or, possibly there could be an app for Mac OS/Windows?

Just thinking out loud. It's certainly not something that screams out to exist, but it would be a bit odd - to me, anyways - to have to revert back to Google when on the desktop...
