Will there be new MBPs at around September time?

Hi

I've decided on getting a 15" MacBook pro over an iMac or new Mac Pro (Power Mac).

What I was wondering, though, was will they be any cheaper around September time which is when I'll be needing it?

Or, will new ones be coming out around that time with better specs?
 
I heard Intel will release the chip in September but wont be in Macs until 2007
 
you head incorrectly, it's a drop in replacement apple would be retarded not to use them as they will be around the same price point as the core2duo
 
It was a mod on the official mac forums that told me. So who do I believe?

Also whats the difference between Merom and Core2?
 
Intel's main consumers are PCs. Surely theyl put them in Pcs in September first then wait till 07 for Macs?
 
I think that the long and short of it is that you never know until it's released. However, Apple put out the core duo line out in the same time frame as the PC manufacturers, has upgraded the specs in a timely manner, etc., so I wouldn't be surprised if at least the 17" - if not all MBPs - were upgraded when the chips are available.

I don't think so. Macs were one of the first PCs to use the CoreDuo chip, why would it be any different for subsequent processors?

Intel does not choice how gets the chips, they sell them and people buy them, nothing to do with the OS the computer willl run. Also Apple's name and "mind share" in the computer world it greater then anyone PC maker, and since intel looks at PC company as it own thing, they are not one thing because they all use Windows.

What ever "offical Mac site" you heard it on was wrong. Also that the only "offical Mac site" is Apple's own forums on Apple.com, it was not "offical"

It is very likely that there will be new MacBook Pros in the September time frame.

Woodcrest is the new Core-based Intel Xeon likely bound for the Mac Pro (Power Mac G5 replacement) in July
Conroe is the new Core 2 processor likely bound for the iMac in July
Merom is the new Core 2 processor likely bound for the MacBook Pro in August
 
Merom MBPs by this September = 99.99 % positive.

(Left out that .01% for the chance that intel might screw up and delay Meroms)
 
One more question. Boosting the MBP to 2gb of RAM from 1gb is a hell of a lot of money more. Around £250. Is it really worth it?

I will be using the laptop for:

PC gaming
Portable Photoshop and Illutrator work at Uni.

Do I really need the extra 1gb of ram for that?

I want to be able to run PC games at max gfx settings

Yeah, youll want it. Check around with other vendors other than apple though, and you will see better prices.

Extra RAM can never hurt:D . You`ll definitely see an improvement in games and PS with that RAM. But you dont really need to get the RAM from APPLE only. There are much more cheaper (still reliable) options out there.

And you dont need to upgrade that RAM at the time of purchase. Use the 1 GB for some time and upgrade to 2 GB if you feel the need and have the moolah:D

Last question I promise:

If my sister was to get it for me in Hong Kong, would the keyboard still be in English and not have all those Asian symbols on it?

Also would the guarantee still work in the UK?
 
ah, I think I can answer this one :D
The only ones with character symbols (in Asia) are only Taiwan and Japan. So I the keyboard should be just like the ones you buy in UK.
and I think apple care is worldwide as well.
 
A UK keyboard is different from a US one, so while a Hong Kong one may not have Asian symbols, it might still be a slightly different layout from what you're used to (eg. Shift-3 is # instead of £ on a US keyboard).
