Will they monitor which websites I have visited?

I was connected to my university's network through VPN from my personal computer. All websites are routed through their servers. Many people connect and use the network.

I forgot to turn the VPN off and went to an xxx website. Actually I watched a video on megavideo. Then I realized the VPN was on and turned it off.

My question is, can an automated system determine what I did and will any IT person go ahead and click the link to see the video?

This is my personal computer and I was connected to the network through Cisco VPN.

The question is - would they care? Unless you're going to some school run by religious zealots like Bob Jones University, then the likely answer is no. Assuming that's not the case, and you weren't watching kiddie porn, then you probably have nothing to worry about.

It's basically the same at my job. They monitor and see everything you do, but there's a difference between browsing around Amazon and going to YouJizz. In your case, the YouJizz is acceptable too.

The system can see it, but the IT guys that rummage through the logs don't care. 9 times out of 10, the guys "monitoring" the network don't look at anything at all. The 1 time out of 10 that they do look, it's because something made them feel the need to. Like if you were reported by someone for pirating or watching child porn, etc.

In the end, unless you're doing crazy ****, don't worry about it. Just don't give them any reasons to go poking through their logs.

i work for my school IT dept and the only time I get flagged tickets is if a user is downloading copyright material like nbc shows etc. Everyone on campus watches porn using the school network which they need to log into using their username/password. No one cares.

Just dont do illegal things like child porn. A fellow on campus was arrested for this, though he claims someone else was doing it using his wireless router.
