So if I wanted to install W7 RC without burning a DVD, could I just partition my HD, mount the .iso, use Disk Utility to restore the new partition from the image, and boot into that image to run the installation?
 
That is very unlikely to work. What you need on the partition is:

(a) The files from the ISO.
(b) A Windows 7 or Vista compatible VBR (volume boot record).

Damn. Well in that case, from what I've heard it might be a better idea to wait until SL and use the 64 bit version then, cuz right now 64 bit Boot Camp drivers aren't included and Windows 7 isn't officially supported. Is that right?
