iPod Will this work?

I don't have extra cash for a nifty iPod speaker system but was wondering if I could use some old computer speakers I have in the closet at home. They are self powered and I think have a mini connection I could plug into the headphone jack...
Before I blow something up I though I'd ask the pro's.

Heck yeah! I carry my iPod everywhere with the chance that some self-powered computer speakers are around. I've been listening to jams while working at my local university lately. It's the same connection that goes into your computer.

I'm pretty sure your old speakers will work if they have an audio jack (the one you plug into the computer), as this is the same connection that plugs into the iPod, so I cannot see why the speakers will not work.

As long as you have a mini connection like most headphones(not the old school ones) they should plug in no prob

You'll probably have to watch the volume you set the iPod at, try starting at 50% and turning the volume on the speakers up, then increase the iPod a little at a time.

If the sound starts to distort it's because you are overloading the input to the speaker's amplifier.

You won't do any damage to the iPod as long as the plug is a stereo 1/8".

Start quiet.

I would quote a Dell kid from another forum, but I'll be nice and not compare you to him Yeah, they'll work. You can also have it running into the linein/mic port on your Mac (as well as anything else with a linein/mic port), into speakers, headphones... it's just a standard 3mm jack

I can't understnad why so many people are unsure whether a set of speakers or headphones that aren't apple/designed for the iPod will fit. I say that with a 3.5mm jack, it almost always will. It's only problems like overloading the speakers' input that will be the problem, I can't think of anything else that would be that much of a problem though.

Just make sure you plug the iPod into the speaker's input not the speaker's headphone jack (if they have one, did you say they did?) But yeah, you're fine.
