If Apple's next MacBook Pro will have 3nm chips, will those chips likely be called M2 or M3?

Why would Apple keep the M2 name for chips made with a 3nm fabrication process when a 5nm chip using the M2 name was released prior?

The 'M' name refers to the chip architecture, not the manufacturing process. So if the new chips use the current M2 architecture, they will be named M2 xxx. If Apple were to skip an architectural generation (doubtful) they will be named M3.
