Hi, I recently upgraded to the public beta and before I update to iTunes 12, I was wondering if by any chance doing so would make my iTunes library inaccessible to iTunes 11 if I were to choose to downgrade back to mavericks?

Yes, once an iTunes library has been upgraded, it cannot be used by an older version of iTunes.

iTunes 12 creates a backup of your old library when it creates a new one. New one cannot be opened with 11 but you can always delete the new one and start using the old one, again.

I don't think it would, I also don't know why you would go back to Mavericks for

Because it's BETA software. Nasty things can happen.

And to the other repliers, I thanks for the heads up. Im afraid I'll have to give it serious thought to upgrading iTunes then.

I can attest to this, I had some issues with movie playback, deleted itunes 12 and downloaded the latest itunes 11, I tried to use it, but it would not open because the itunes library was from a newer version...but, now have 12 on my mac and working fine for now.

You can use newer version library on mavericks by deleting a file, I forgot the name of which. But I successfully reversed to mavericks without breaking anything in my 100+G iTunes library. Try to google it.

Your "iTunes library" is literally just 1 file that tells itunes where everything is at....

You can ALWAYS make a backup and revert without issues.

This is why everyone nips at people using beta stuff without a backup, because having a backup makes solving issues so ********* easy.
