My iPod used to be jailbroken, and I was pretty upset to have to give up my favorite theme, and wallpaper for the plain default Apple one. Will we ever see anything like Customize or SMBPrefs from the new app store, or will apple not allow this? It's not like I won't live, but it would certainly make things a little bit easier on the eyes if there was such a thing created.

They probably won't allow it, but it would be awesome if we had more customizing features built right in.

Please let me change all the sounds! I want my own ringers for sms, email, etc.

PwnageTool will be released for the new 2.0 software in the coming days/weeks.. So Customize will probably rewritten/compile for the 2.0 software (if they require it, would be pretty awesome if they worked without recompiles)

I just read at the Dev Site for customize that they already tried to do this but Apple turned down their App. It really sucks that such great apps like this wont see the day of light because of Apples policies

Yeah, it can only happen if Apple themselves releases it. And considering they not only left the feature out from the start, but haven't added it in the year since iPhone first came out or even in the huge 2.0 update, chances are they won't ever add it. They probably see the default UI look as "THE" iPhone look, and don't want people running around showing people the crappy interfaces they made.

unfortunately, it wil never happen... only reason to still jailbreak

If apple allowed themes, i would not rejailbreak, but whatever finder and SSH are fun too!

That's what I figured, but I just wanted to ask to see what everyone else thought. That sucks...hopefully Apple will change their mind, and either allow it or create an app themselves. Oh well...

So. We are able to (or used to be able to) take a 30 second clip, change the extension to m4r, and drop it into iTunes to get ringtones.

Why has an app hack like that not been found? I figured shortly after the release of the App Store, someone would have figured out a way to add your own applications to your phone with some little workaround. (Without Jailbraking, of course.)
