The current resolution of the largest MacBook Pro screen is 1680 x 1050 (16:10). But true HD video is 1920 x 1080 (16:9). Will we see 16:9 screens from Apple, or will Apple stick with a 16:10 ratio and opt for a resolution of 1920 x 1200?

16:10 is the industry standard for widescreen computer monitors - it allows playback of 16:9 video with room for stuff to control playback. TVs and stuff are 16:9 though.
I'd say we'll hit 1920x1200 pretty soon once Leopard lobs and removes the problem of high resolutions making the UI so small you can't see it - everything will just look clearer.
Sony already had had for few month a vaio 1920*1200 with bluray

Resolution Independence in software is in prep for high dpi displays which Apple has repeatedly said "by 2008."
You might get a MBP this year that does 1080 or 1200 - I have no knowledge of Apple's HW plans in this regard - but I think it is overstating things to assume RI in Leopard instantly means what you want it to mean.
