I am in the market for a new imac, but the 1.86 core duo is kind of a turn off. With the MBP and MB already meeting these speeds, do you think we will se a imac quiet speed bump soon?

The iMac intel Comes with A CoreDuo.Right. That 1.83 GhZ, IS PER CORE. If i add both of them together, you got yourself a speed of

Drumroll Please:

Congratulations on posting one of the most confusing and useless responses I've seen in my 3+ years on this board. They are ALL core duos, so does that have to do with anything??

Additionally, you can't just add the speeds of the cores and say it's the same as one 3.66 Ghz chip.

and IMO, it is likely that we'll see a speed bump to the imacs in the not too distant future.

It would seem logical, but maybe Apple wanted the MBP to look more "pro" than the iMac. Hopefully, Apple will put a Merom/Conroe in it ASAP. Come to think of it, the Mac Mini could do with a bump too.

Guys calm down! Not all the Macs need upgrades

The iMac still smokes the MacBook, it has a dedicated graphics cards, bigger and faser Hard Drive, bigger screen, more USB ports.. the iMac is better then the MacBook, the specs prove it. A small 170Mhz is not going to make a HUGE difference of speed(not to say it won't help)

I didn't even mention the MacBook and now I'm being told to calm down? :p
I'm not talking about an immediate update, but when Conroe + Merom come out, the iMac will be due for an update.

Say I get an iMac in a week or two, what are the chances of pulling the old processor and plugging in one of the newer ones when they come out? [I have forgotten what the answer to that question is D: ]
