iPod Will we see an iPod Classic refresh before September?

It seems like the Classic deserves an upgrade considering that the last refresh was more of a downgrade. It'd be great to see one before the iPod event in September, but I'm not expecting anything.

I have a really large library of both music and video, so I'd like to get something larger than what I currently have. However I don't want to buy right before the refresh.

I did check the buyers guide, but the cycle is at a point where things aren't predictable.

There were rumors of a unibody iPod on 9to5Mac the other day. I don't know what it indicates, but if I had to guess, it'll be September at the earliest.

This will probably be the last update to the iPod classic. Hopefully it will be full unibody and have a 160GB hard disk. (are there any single platter 1.8 inch 160GB hard disk drives?)

i think there are single platter 1.8 inch 250. not sure though

Yeah this is what I was thinking as well.

I wonder what it will be replaced with. I hope they don't bring the touch screen to it, but I think that's the direction things are moving. I guess once Flash memory prices come down further the Touch will be the main iPod. As long as they keep the capacity the same/greater I'm okay with it.

Kind of leaves me (and presumably others) with a quandry though.

I have an iPhone and an iPod classic. One is primarily an MP3 player and the other is primarily a phone/handheld computer.

The classic fits my storage needs perfectly and compliments my iPhone.

I'm never going to want an iPhone AND an iPod Touch and if you're under contract with AT&T or O2, I can't just upgrade to higher storage capacities whenever I want to.

I *really* hope they come up with a better solution than killing the classic to make way for the iPod Touch being the sole "big" iPod.

I would not like them to stop iPod classic unless they can make ones at a reasonable price with HUGE memory. My itunes folder is upto 500gb, and even though i know that (or can guess that) the ipod classic will never reach that sort of size, theres no harm in dreaming of it:d

I'm looking forward to the 128GB iPod classic, It'd be sweet if it looked like the current classic, but was as thick as the iPod touch.

I sense that one of two things will happen.

1) The iPod classic will die when Apple can fit 128GB of flash in an iPod touch and not charge $500 for it.

2) The iPod classic will merge with a new iPod touch model that uses the HDD. This solves the storage concerns and gets more people with App Store capability.

I honestly can't ever see myself wanting another click wheel iPod model after using the iPhone. The controls are so much easier and the apps are such a huge bonus. The only drawback is trying to skip tracks while in my car. I often turn the volume down a bit.

If you can find iPod classic vs. iPod touch sales figures, you might be able to tell if the classic has a future. I think the nano is the top seller, and I would assume that the classic doesn't sell as much as the 8GB iPod touch.
