Will WhatsApp and Messanger still work if I change my number?

Hi, I am traveling with a local SIM card. If I add friends and communicate with them via any of the above apps and change the SIM card back to the one I used at home in North America (I.e. different number), will the communications automatically work or I will need to add them using the number in home country again?
