Just curious, I need to use windows programs for school that aren't available to my macbook. Although I would love to go from mavericks to Yosemite while keeping my windows partition without anything funky happening. I do have backups of both but I rather not spend the time to restore everything

It shouldn't, but if you have ongoing work/assignments I'd recommend waiting just to be sure.
