It seems more promising now that the Apple TV is built to be what it is supposed to be. I'm still not very excited about the $3 per movie thing. If Apple offered a subscription service (which I'm sure they will soon because Netflix is coming out with a set top box which I think will have the subcription service), I would totally switch from Netflix to Apple TV.

It's not new, it's the same AppleTV with a software update. I bought mine a few months back.
It isn't new. That said, the new free software update for it combined with the rental offerings from iTS make AppleTV more compelling than ever. Didn't you all know this was coming from the time that AppleTV was introduced. I got one when it was introduced, and I love my AppleTV. Highly recommended.

Still waiting for Blu-Ray (at least support), DVR, 1080P and Leopard. Don't blow up on me 'cause I'm hopeful. These are just the things I want. A Mini won't do because it's got no HDMI connection. I may be waiting for a long time, and I may never get it from Apple, but I'll buy from whoever makes me ONE BOX to connect to my HDTV, that does it all. Here's to dreaming...

The DVI to HDMI cable should fix that...

I purchased one back in November and returned it because it just did not work well with my macbook, I had a lot of connection issues. I have since sold my MacBook.
I now have a Mac Mini and it is always on. The new software coming in two weeks will allow you to do a lot more things without having to stream it from a dedicated computer.

Bought ours mid-December, in time for some holiday viewing. Went for a 40Gb refurb (CDN$229). Now the retail price has been lowered, it's only a matter of time before the refurb price drops as well. Should help push some more out the door.
Not sure whether we'll do any rentals (when Canada eventually gets the service), will depend on price. However it's been great for Kids movies, Photo's and Video Podcasts (especially the 'HD' ones).
The YouTube feature has been suprisingly entertaining.
As a Flickr user, the 'Take2' update looks goods, even without rentals. Being able to browse and choose Podcasts etc, directly from the couch, is a big plus.
TV does need a better photo browser, perhaps like the grid-browser used on the iPod's. Finding a specific photo or two, using the slideshow navigation is a pain.

Well I'm torn. I bought mine when it first came out with the 1.0 software. I hacked it to read 300+ movies and 400+TV shows off a 1TB USB drive. I know if I go to the 2.0 update, it'll sever that connection. I'd personally, rather pick up a v1.0 AppleTV because of the software IF I ever wanted to just use it as a media box full of ripped media. But the podcasting directly to my TV would be AWESOME!!!

Yes, it is a "system requirement" that the Apple TV be connected to a wide screen TV.

I was kind of hoping that the newTV update would have the ability to stream internet radio. As many in the forum predicted this what not going to happen.
As for all of the new movie rental feature useless for us Aussies. We haven't even got movies on iTunes.
So I lashed out and bought the necessary cables to hook up my Macbook to my HDTV, a wireless keyboard (which is gorgeous BTW) & wireless mouse.
I have to say that I am very happy with this set up.
